How To Achieve Optimal Health This Fall

Fall doesn’t have to come with seasonal sniffles.

Whether it’s back to school or the changing weather, there’s something about fall that just has people… aaaaahhhh… chooo!

Seasonally sick.

While we don’t hate the cozy rest day at home that comes with being sick during the fall, we don’t have time to feel so ill! Our goal at our practice is to help everyone who comes through our doors to achieve their optimal functional wellness.

Since being sick because it’s fall doesn’t fall under optimal or functional, we’ve compiled a few fall-specific tips to help you enjoy this season healthier than ever.

Functional Wellness Tips For Your Fall

  • Add in sunshine. We get most of our Vitamin D from the sun, so our intake decreases when the weather is colder since we spend most of our time inside during the fall/winter seasons. If you find you are not getting outside much, a Vitamin D supplement can boost your mood and immune system!

  • Schedule a chiropractic adjustment. Whether you have a specific area of pain to address or visit for overall health, our solutions-focused chiropractic care aims to help you achieve optimum wellness.

  • Soak in an Epsom bath. On those few cold days we get in Florida, there’s nothing more relaxing than a hot bath. Try adding in Epsom salts. They contain sulfate and magnesium that can help with the removal of toxins and can ease arthritis pain that can flare up in cold weather.

  • Use the season as a time to pause. Fall and winter are Earth’s way of telling us to slow down. This might be the perfect time to start a journal or a new book to take some time for yourself.

  • Give your immune system a boost. Simply drinking more water, washing your hands often, and eating nutritious foods can help your immune system protect you as you go about your day.

  • Remember your skin. Harsh temperatures can make your skin dry. Also, you still should be wearing sunscreen.

  • Choose in-season food. Eating in season offers more nutrient-dense options and is better for your wallet and the environment. Beets, broccoli, cabbage, eggplant, kale, pumpkin, broths, roasted squash, roots and sautéed dark leafy greens are all great choices for this season.

  • Feel your feelings. If the darker months have you feeling blue, take the opportunity to work through them in a healthy way in a therapy session.
